Lift Qatar’s travel restrictions for Finland-bound students
The Issue
Petition Title: Urgent Appeal to Resolve Visa & Travel Restrictions Affecting Pakistani Students Bound for Finland and Europe
To:
Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA), Government of Pakistan
Embassy of Qatar in Pakistan
Embassy of Finland in Pakistan / Relevant European Missions
Preamble / Introduction
We, the undersigned Pakistani students, parents, and concerned citizens, urgently bring to light a critical crisis affecting hundreds of Pakistani students whose academic futures, financial investments, and mental well-being are in severe jeopardy due to ongoing visa and travel restrictions involving Qatar.
The Core Issue
For the past several months, stringent visa and transit/entry restrictions imposed by Qatari authorities on Pakistani nationals have severely disrupted travel routes to Europe, specifically to Finland. Many students who have secured admissions, paid non-refundable tuition fees, and obtained their official Residence Permits for Finland are facing insurmountable travel and transit hurdles. Because standard flight paths and transit connections through Doha have been obstructed or delayed due to these restrictions, students are unable to reach their universities before their semester deadlines.
Impact on Students & Families
Academic Disruption: Students are facing the imminent risk of losing their academic semesters, delayed graduations, or the complete cancellation of their hard-earned university admissions in Finland.
Severe Financial Losses: Families have invested life savings into university tuition fees, health insurance, and documentation. With tickets canceled or rendered useless and deadlines missed, thousands of hard-earned rupees are going down the drain.
Mental Health & Distress: The prolonged uncertainty, administrative red tape, and lack of clear solutions have thrown affected students and their families into deep psychological stress, anxiety, and depression. Many feel entirely helpless as no immediate institutional support is visible.
Our Urgent Demands
We urgently appeal to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Pakistan, and diplomatic channels to:
Initiate High-Level Diplomatic Engagement: Open immediate dialogue with Qatari authorities to address and ease visa, transit, and entry restrictions for Pakistani students and citizens.
Establish a Special Student Facilitation Desk: Create a dedicated helpline or desk at the Foreign Office to assist stranded students or those facing imminent academic loss due to travel bottlenecks.
Engage with European Missions: Coordinate with Finnish and European universities to grant deadline extensions or flexible arrival options for Pakistani students trapped in this visa/travel crisis.
Signed,
Pakistani Students and Concerned Citizens
