I am deeply concerned about an initiative to hire private security in the Hunter's Point area. After months of reading posts on the Hunters Point Civic Association Facebook page, I worry that many in the community actually have issues with black/brown and low-income folks in the neighborhood. There are significant amounts of coded language and the 'othering' of the subjects of the posts. Hiring private security could increase the risk for black and brown residents of the community. This petition is to create a place for those who are concerned about adding private security to our neighborhood to voice their concern. The petition will be delivered to Jimmy Van Bramer and Senator Gianaris.
