Letter from a Sri Lankan Tamil Refugee Seeking Citizenship Rights and Equal Opportunities

Letter from a Sri Lankan Tamil Refugee Seeking Citizenship Rights and Equal Opportunities
The Issue
To
Thiru. C. Joseph Vijay
Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu
Respected Sir,
We were born in India. We studied here. We grew up here.
But thousands of Sri Lankan Tamil refugees in Tamil Nadu still live without citizenship, equal rights, proper identity, and freedom.
For decades, refugee families have lived with restrictions on education, jobs, travel, and opportunities. Many youngsters lose career opportunities, government opportunities, and even the chance to travel abroad because they do not have proper citizenship documents or passports.
Our parents came to India during the war seeking safety. India gave us protection and life. But even after nearly 40 years, many families are still waiting for dignity, recognition, and a secure future.
We are not asking for sympathy.
We are asking for equal rights, opportunities, and a future where the next generation does not grow up feeling like outsiders in the place they call home.
This is not just one person’s issue.
This is the voice of thousands of Sri Lankan Tamil refugees living in Tamil Nadu.
Please support, share, and help our voices reach the leaders who can bring change.
