Let Us Pee In Peace!!
The Issue
Armwood Highschool in Seffner Florida has been enforcing new rules not unlike many other schools in Hillsborough county, but these rules in particular not only interfere with the students health but also interfere with their privacy as well. The new set of rules that im bringing into question are the new bathroom rules and policies. The first problem with the new policies is that the bathroom passes run on an emergency basis only, meaning you can only go if its an emergency ie: your bladder is full. This puts the students health at risk because as everyone may know, it's completely unhealthy to hold your pee in for extended periods of time. According to geisinger.org "holding in urine for extremely long periods of time can cause urinary tract infections (uti) and Bacterial build up." Telling students they can only use the bathroom if its an emergency is basically telling them to hold it in. While holding your pee in occasionally probably wouldnt do much harm, doing it for 8 hours a day 5 days a week can in no way be healthy. The second policy that was put in place by Armwoods principal, Dina Langston is that during 4th,5th,and 6th period (lunch periods) students are prohibited from using the bathroom unless escorted by an administrator, meaning if they have to use the bathroom during a lunch period (4th,5th, or 6th) the teacher is to call the office and request an administrator to come and get the student. IF the administrator were to even show up they are to walk you to the bathroom and will wait outside until you are finished and they will walk you back to class. So students will not only have to wait 10 minutes to even ask to use the bathroom, they will also have to wait for an (extremely busy) administrator to finish their duties and come and get them. This is not only unhealthy for students to be holding in their waste, but it is also an EXTREME invasion of privacy when you know someone is waiting for you on the other side of the door of the room youre doing your business in. So please help us Armwood High students get rid of this bogus policy.
