As global triathlon fans, amateur athletes, and sports lovers, we ask World Triathlon to remove the paywall from the World Triathlon Championship Series (WTCS) races — live and replayed.

WTCS is the highest level of short-course triathlon. Yet today, fans can’t watch their sport unless they pay €36.99+ per year (or €10.99 monthly) for a TriathlonLive subscription. This excludes:

• Young athletes without income
• Fans in who cannot afford it
• Casual viewers who might fall in love with the sport

Triathlon is not just a sport. It's a community and culture that thrives on inclusivity, encouraging people of all backgrounds to join, learn, and grow. Unfortunately, the WTCS paywall creates a barrier, preventing fans worldwide from accessing high-quality live coverage of these incredible events. This exclusion not only limits the sport's exposure to new audiences but also hinders the existing fan base from fully engaging with each race.

According to a 2021 survey by Statista, over 60% of sports fans now rely on digital platforms for accessing live sports events. By maintaining a paywall, the WTCS is not aligning with current digital viewing trends, which could potentially limit its growth and audience reach. Many sports organizations have successfully expanded their fan base by making events more accessible, offering free live streams on platforms like YouTube or social media. These innovations have broadened reach and encouraged more active participation and engagement with the sport.

Removing the paywall will not only democratize access to live streams but also bolster the triathlon community globally. It offers a chance for aspiring triathletes to find motivation and guidance by observing professionals in the field. Moreover, it can amplify the sport’s global footprint, paving the way for increased sponsorships and partnerships that benefit the sport's growth.
