🛑 Let the Karimpana Wind Keep Blowing – Save Palakkad’s Iconic Palm Groves! For decades, the swaying Karimpana (Borassus flabellifer) palms have been more than just trees in Palakkad — they are symbols of our identity, emotion, and culture.
But today, this identity is vanishing.
In the once lush palm havens of Vengalakkayam and Kambalathara, over 500 palm trees are now at risk of being cut down in the name of deepening irrigation fields. This is not just an environmental loss — it’s an assault on our natural and cultural heritage.
These palm groves have been a major attraction for travelers and tourists who visit Palakkad. The picturesque landscapes have also featured as backdrops in numerous films, making them a part of Kerala’s visual memory.
When people hear “Palakkad,” they instantly visualize rows of proud palm trees dancing in the wind. That is the soul of Palakkad. That is the rhythm of our land.
Cutting down these trees for short-term projects will permanently erase this legacy.
🌴 We demand an immediate halt to the planned cutting of Karimpana palms in Palakkad.
🌴 We urge the authorities to explore alternative, eco-friendly solutions for irrigation without harming this iconic landscape.
🌴 We request the Kerala Government and concerned departments to declare the Karimpana groves in Vengalakkayam and Kambalathara as a protected heritage zone.
These trees don’t have a voice. But we do.
Let us come together to protect the Karimpana winds from falling silent forever.
