We, as members of the broader DC community, call on the Department of Buildings (DOB) to immediately issue the certificate of occupancy allowing use of the newly completed Maret athletic fields at the former Episcopal Center for Children in Washington, DC.

Why This Matters:

Maret's Athletic Field sits ready, but kids across DC — from students to community groups and neighborhood families — are still locked out. Despite regulatory approvals and a court ruling, the District of Columbia has yet to give the final OK to open the field. Join us in demanding action so our children and community can finally play.

• Students and families are waiting for a project that was approved by the BZA in March 2022!
• Community groups like Flagstar Football and Player Progression Academy (PPA) are waiting to use the field.
• Maret delivered on its promised public transparency and benefit.
• DC Court of Appeals affirmed the project licenses in its August 2024 decision. 

Our Demand

We urge the DC Mayor Muriel Bowser and DOB Director Brian Hanlon to immediately issue the permit so that Maret students, Flagstar Football, PPA, and other community groups can finally use the fields.

The fields are ready. The children are ready. The community is ready. Let them play.
