Let the Bells Ring Again: It’s Time to Revive Disney’s Hunchback of Notre Dame Musical

The Issue

Disney has brought many of its stories to the stage - The Lion King, Aladdin, Frozen. But The Hunchback of Notre Dame - with music by Alan Menken and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz - has never had a full Broadway or West End run.

More than anything, Hunchback stands out for its message. It asks:
“What makes a monster and what makes a man?”

It doesn’t shy away from how cruel the world can be - but also reminds us that:
“there are times, and there are people, when the world is not.”

That’s why it resonates. It’s a story about empathy, about seeing humanity in others, and choosing kindness when it’s difficult.

The original film introduced these ideas, but the stage version goes further - with a fuller score and a version that doesn’t shy away from the darker elements of Hugo’s story.

This isn’t just another adaptation. It’s a version that deserves a larger stage.

We’re asking Disney Theatrical Productions to give The Hunchback of Notre Dame the full run it hasn’t yet had - on Broadway, the West End, or as a filmed release - so more people can experience it.
