20 minutes of down time for students in LCPS every day.

20 minutes of down time for students in LCPS every day.
The Issue
Life as a student can be very stressful. Between all the work done in school, and homework done outside of school, many students may feel that all their energy has been exhausted. The body's natural way of recharging that energy is through sleep. The recommended amount of sleep school-aged kids should get each night is 8-10 hours, but many may get less than that. In addition, students may be restless in school, having to sit in a seat for 7 hours of the day. A solution to this may be recess, but many schools in Loudoun County have eliminated it. To solve this problem, students should have the option to take a quick nap, run around outside, or another activity of their choice the teacher thinks is appropriate during a small, 20 minute period each day. Studies have shown that even as little as 17 minutes of sleep can prove very useful in energizing the body. So if you feel tired at the end of the day, or agree with this solution, join the cause!
