Let Starlight Runner Entertainment Release Art and Details From Highway 35: World Race

The Issue

With the 20th anniversary of Hot Wheels Highway 35: World Race coming up in just over a year, on July 13th, 2023, I, along with many other Hot Wheels fans would like to learn more about the movie that was such a big part of our lives.

Everybody I have talked to, and everyone in places like forums and comments sections that has watched the movie shares a passion for this hidden gem of a movie. For many of us, it shaped our childhood, and to this day I see people posting videos on Youtube or threads on Reddit about who their favorite driver was, and what their favorite car is.

Back in July 2018, on the day before the 18th anniversary of the movie, Mr. Jeff Gomez, the CEO of Starlight Runner Entertainment, posted an Ask Me Anything to Reddit that gained over 120 comments. In this post, Mr. Gomez was asked many things, including if there were plans to release an art book of their original drawings for the movie and if there were any plot details cut from the final product.

In response to the question about the art book, Mr. Gomez commented "Would love an Art Book, but that would be entirely up to Mattel. We still have many of the images we originally designed for the project and they're all gorgeous!"

While answering the many questions about changed, missing, or scrapped plotlines and details, Mr. Gomez wrote "Our original ending explained what exactly the hell was going on with the Wheel, Gelorum, the SCRIM, and the CLYP. (...) We were told that little kids didn't need so much explanation...!" To which the person who posed the question asked if this old plot point could be recovered, and Mr. Gomez replied "Mattel has been strict about us talking too much about what might have been. (...) Would love to do a full disclosure one day but would need Mattel's thumb up for that."

While kids may not need so much explanation, we grow older and start wondering, our brains start maturing and we figure out more things. Mattel's thought of kids not needing explanation may or may not be true, but curiosity burns in all of us. There's an obvious interest to this day to find out what the original ending to this movie may have been, and I, along with hundreds of other Hot Wheels fans would like to see both these alternate plot details as well as original drawings revealed and documented instead of the possibility of everything being lost forever

Mattel is the only entity that has the power to give Starlight Runner Entertainment the green light to release more details about Highway 35: World Race and this petition seeks to show Mattel that we care enough about this movie that has had such an impact on our lives that even almost 20 years later we still talk about the movie, and even seek to recreate cars in video games to the best of our abilities.
