Good morning, we are students from Highscope Indonesia Bintaro. We noticed that coral reefs are decreasing and many sea lifes are dying and suffering because of destruction of coral reefs, oil spill, trash pollution, etc. There are a lot of problems in the sea such as destruction of coral reefs.

Coral reefs were the most beautiful living things in the ocean, but over the years coral reefs have decreased. This problem causes more sea life to decrease and lose its habitat. More sea life is dying and decreasing, which may lead to extinction. By having a balanced ecosystem there will be no chaos and will have no problem. An example of a balanced ecosystem are like the coral reefs increasing and no sea pollution. Coral reefs face many threats from local sources, including: Physical damage or destruction from coastal development, dredging, quarrying, destructive fishing practices and gear, boat anchors and groundings, and recreational misuse (touching or removing corals). 

But what we need to be aware of is an unbalanced ecosystem. An unbalanced ecosystem such as air pollution, sea pollution and land pollutions. In the sea there is lots of pollution which can affect the ecosystem such as the sea animals eating the trash and the coral reefs decreasing. And all of this is caused by humans. If we don't stop this, the whole ecosystem will be unbalanced and more chaos will happen. If one ecosystem is balanced then all the other ecosystems are balanced. For example, in the ocean, fishes live in the coral reefs but the coral reefs are decreasing and fishes eat plastic, while we eat fish and the food web will keep being imbalanced. This causes the imbalance of ecosystem. So if we solve the coral reef destruction, then all the problems will be solved.

A lot of coral reefs are dying and more sea life is endangered. And if this doesn't stop, more sea animals don't have a home to live in. A lot of sea life is endangered such as sea star, fishes, sea worms etc. The coral reef destruction started in 1997 and got worse in 2019. From this problem we can know that the coral reefs and sea life needs our help and we should help them.  

This problem is caused by illegal fishing and tourists grabbing the coral reefs directly without a license. A lot of coral reefs are damaged by the year. In Indonesia the destruction of coral reefs started in 1997 from 100% to 60-50%, in the year 2000 the coral reefs decreased from 50%-40-30%, In the year 2019 it got worse, from 30% into 20-15%. So in total there are 85% of coral reefs destroyed. This problem is causing unbalance in the ecosystem such as sea life. In the sea fishes live in the coral reefs, but because the coral reefs are decreased. The fishes have no home, that makes the fishes sick, dying and the fish population is decreasing.

 

The solution to these problems is by making a scratch and digital petition related to the destruction of coral reefs, more people will know about this and try to help the coral reefs and sea life. By making this project, we can stop illegal fishing, destruction of coral reefs, sea life losing a home, etc. Terumbu karang harus dilindungi oleh hukum yang kuat seperti di tindakan kriminal karena melanggar Pasal 73 ayat (1) huruf a jo UU Nomor 27 Tahun 2007. So if someone destroys the coral reefs, then they will have very big consequences. By having this rule in the book of laws, then destruction of coral reefs should decrease.
