Continue the closure of BC schools after March Break to reduce the risk of COVID-19
The Issue
As of March 14th, British Columbia has seventy-three cases of the COVID-19. Not to mention, the virus has already claimed a life.
When looking at the world, many people wonder how people are handling the virus in other countries. Then they think of us, while we try our best to reduce the infection rates, we need to try harder to protect the lives of all 5,000,000+ British Columbians.
With where British Columbia stands with the Coronavirus, there is more of a chance to get infected here than over in a province like Saskatchewan. Keeping kids in school doesn’t make it better, nor does it stable the infection rates.
British Columbian Schools host more than ~550,000 students each day across ~1800 schools and a handful of those schools are vulnerable and many kids can come into contact with more than a thousand people at one school alone.
Keeping schools open is like keeping the door for infection left open, it’s leaving tens of thousands of kids left to fend for themselves as they don’t know who has COVID-19 and who does.
Many kids are worried as to what can happen in class, it’s taking time away from learning and redirecting the time to worrying. Many kids may live with someone even more vulnerable and we don’t need an outbreak starting.
