Let's make Red Velvet, the official State Cake of Karnataka!

The Issue

Are you a proud resident of the great state of Karnataka?

Have you ever wondered how we could help people from other parts of India — and from all over this pale blue dot we call Earth — truly assimilate and learn more about our beautiful state, its rich culture, history, and heritage that's woven into the quotidian fabric of this great country?

Shouldn’t everyone who moves to Karnataka get a little bit of that South in their mouth?! Don’t they deserve to have their cake and eat it too — a slice of the good life, something they can take with them wherever they go? Because only a moment on the lips guarantees a lifetime on the hips - a  confectionery token of appreciation, from one Indian to another brother or sister.

They say the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach — but why should that quote be reserved for only one gender? I say: let them eat cake!

The Big Apple (New York) has its cheesecake. We have our humble boiled beans. And since everyone loves a happy ending 😉 — especially a rich, creamy dessert — a sweet treat to end the meal.

Let’s stitch our oven mitts together and make Red Velvet the official State Cake of Karnataka!

It is an eatable indexical, the very colour of the Karnataka state flag. Let us transform the humble sponge and cream cheese into an edible emblem of our shared identity!

Of course, making Red Velvet our State Cake is only the first step. Next, we’ll adopt a codified recipe, to ensure that bakeries across Karnataka do away with fake cream and switch to cream cheese and fresh cream for their frostings and baked goods!

Join me, brothers and sisters — for I had a dream, and now I am wide awake to realize it.
