The Issue
Growing up in India, I’ve watched my beloved country face numerous challenges. These challenges are particularly evident in three critical areas: our education system, our health system, and the transparency of our government. These sectors are fundamental to our nation’s progress, and their current states are hindering the growth and potential of India.
Our education system struggles to provide quality education to all, particularly in rural areas. According to UNICEF, over 6 million children are still out of school, and the quality of education varies significantly across regions. Investment in teacher training, curriculum development, and school infrastructure is crucial. This will not only ensure every child’s right to education but also pave the way for a skilled and knowledgeable workforce, which is vital for our country’s growth.
In our health system, issues such as limited access to healthcare, shortage of medical professionals, and inadequate funding are prevalent. The World Health Organization highlights these concerns with statistics showing that India has only 0.9 physicians per 1,000 people, well below the recommended standard. We urgently need to increase healthcare funding, improve facilities, and ensure every citizen has access to quality medical services. A robust health system is the backbone of a healthy and productive population.
The government’s role is to be a transparent entity that serves its people. Unfortunately, opaque decision-making and corruption are ongoing issues. The Transparency International’s Corruption Perceptions Index ranks India at 86 out of 180 countries. It's time for more accountability measures and public involvement in governance to cultivate trust and empowerment among citizens.
I believe that promoting inclusivity and equality is essential for the sustainable growth of our nation. It is imperative that every person, regardless of their religion or background, has the right to question and hold the government accountable. This freedom must be protected and encouraged to truly reflect our democratic values.
