Let’s get DAYLIGHT on our screens
The Issue
This is directed at all Lucas Bouchard, Chris McNally and LucaBeth Hearties that got their hearts broken with what transpired at the end of S10 (I think Team Nathan fans should also get on board with this petition, you will finally get your wish of kicking Lucas Bouchard/Chris McNally from the show). After a 3 year long love triangle, we were assured and guaranteed a happily ever after for LucaBeth. However, in S10 the new showrunner (along with the other producers / writers in charge) decided to negate/ decimate 5 years of buildup, a 3 yr relationship, ruin/ taint all their moments along the way, have the female protagonist (Elizabeth) emotionally cheat on (by having her bond & flirt with another man (Nathan) who was inlove with her), belittle (make fun of, speak ill of behind his back), disrespect and lie to the male protagonist (Lucas). 3 weeks before their wedding and two episodes before the S10 finale, they decided to break them up in what could only be described as the most heartless & cruel manner.
Due to the nonsensical/ unjustified narrative shift that occurred at the end of S10, Lucas Bouchard, Chris McNally and LucaBeth Hearties have been looking for ways to heal what the new showrunner / writers/ some of the talent on When Calls the Heart ruined/broke. Writing fanfiction is one way that fans gravitated towards, to fix what TPTB destroyed. There is one fanfiction story in particular that has gained momentum and has a following within this fandom. It involves Lucas Bouchard and a bunch of new original characters that were borne from the genius mind of the author (i.e. Tree). In my opinion, it could work as both a three movie series, or a tv show with a couple of tweaks to expand the story (a spinoff of When Calls the Heart or an entirely new story).

It could work as a PG13, period family drama set in the 1920s - think Bridgerton but not as risque, probably closer to Sweet Mangolias and Virgin River (both of which have a big fanbase and are huge hits for Netflix). Hallmark channel is the logical choice, however, The CW/ ABC/FOX/NBC/CBS/ Netflix/ Hulu/ Disney +/ Prime could also pick it up.
Chris McNally is the actor we want to play the male protagonist. He is still on When Calls the Heart. Honestly though, trusting the writers of When Calls of the Heart to give Lucas Bouchard a worthy storyline/romantic arc and Chris McNally good material to work with is at an all time low/ non-existent. They did’t care about his storyline, his characterization, a five season build up in S10, we certainly don’t expect them to care about the character/actor now. Instead they will try to break him down to prop up the new leading man.
To Brian Bird and Lindsay Sturman, evidenced by what you did in S10, you hate the character, you don’t think Lucas Bouchard or Chris McNally are good enough to lead the show, and Erin Krakow you don’t think Chris McNally is good enough to play your romantic lead. So how about you relinquish the rights of the character and give him to people who will honor, respect and understand him. You pushed him 22 hours away from HV so he can stay away from your new budding romance with Nathan/Elizabeth, I say just extend the favour and push him onto a different show with talent behind the camera that actually appreciates Lucas Bouchard/ Chris McNally. If we want to guarantee that Lucas Bouchard/ Chris McNally get a goods story, there’s no better way than to base it on the imagination/ creativity of a person (a fan - i.e. Tree) who is a very talented & amazing writer that loves, understands, respects the character.
I should clarify that this petition was initiated by a huge fan of the story, and someone who believes it is awesome, and that it would be a hit if adapted on screen. The author is not aware of this petition, it’s just a small show of appreciation, to thank her for all her efforts to bring healing and joy to a heartbroken fandom.
