Let's get Billy Boston Rugby League Legend a Knighthood!
The Issue
Let's get Billy Boston a knighthood!
Billy Boston is a living legend in the history of both Rugby League and Wigan Warriors and we believe it is high time that his contribution to the game and our town is recognised at the highest level.
Billy started his playing career for Wigan in 1953 and over the next 15 years scored a club-record 478 tries in 488 appearances. In addition, Billy also represented Great Britain in 31 Test matches, was the first non-white player to be selected to tour Australia and New Zealand in 1954 and was part of the team that won the 1960 Rugby League World Cup.
Throughout Billy’s career, he broke down barriers of race and what it means to be a successful, professional Rugby League player which paved the way for future generations of players.
All his life he has been an advocate for Rugby League and now in his 90th year, we feel Billy deserves to be properly celebrated.
Please join us in supporting this petition and getting Billy the recognition he so richly deserves.
Thank You
