The Santa Cruz City Council has UNANIMOUSLY approved STAFF’s revised recommendation to give the mile-long ESCALONA GREENWAY (from Highland to Bay) at least some of the bicycle and pedestrian safety features that exist on King, High & other nearby streets, including:
BIKE SAFETY:
* Wider/longer bike lanes
(Highland to Peyton);
* Bike “sharrows” from Peyton to Bay; and
* An uphill bike lane from Peyton to the top.
PEDESTRIAN SAFETY:
* New sidewalk from Peyton to Walnut;
* “Pedestrians in the Street” signage
(where there aren’t sidewalks);
* ADA-compliant curb cuts/driveways; and
* Better marked intersections/crosswalks.
VEHICULAR TRAFFIC FLOW:
* Marked centerlines from Highland to Bay;
* Narrower car lanes near bike lanes; and
* Narrower lanes at intersections.
Thank you to all of the Council who reached out and supported our neighborhood efforts, including Mayor Keeley and Council members Newsome, Brown, Brunner and Kalantiri-Johnson.
