The final negotiations have begun to decide whether the EU’s food waste will be halved by 2030, and there’s a stand-off. In March, we had a massive victory and won the support of the European Parliament for farm-to-fork targets to halve EU food waste! But now the European Council are resisting these targets, and resisting any consideration of making them binding. We can’t let the European Council hold Europe back, when we face the urgent dilemmas of climate change and food poverty in Europe! We’ve heard indications that particularly the UK and Germany are at the forefront of resistance to the targets – and as recently appointed Minister for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, Michael Gove is now in charge of the UK’s position.
