This is huge. Before kick-off for the first games in the Sir Doug Nicholls round, EVERY club in the AFL is standing with the #FreeTheFlag campaign. We couldn’t have gotten this far without all of your support. Your messages. comments and tweets to your club helped them realise just how important this was to us.

This weekend, can you show your support by adding the #FreeTheFlag frame to your Facebook profile?

That all 18 clubs are standing in solidarity and unity with Aboriginal communities, and putting pride over profit, sends SUCH a powerful message to the AFL, and to those in power who could step in and ensure the Aboriginal flag is free to use for everyone.

Yesterday, the Minister for Indigenous Australians Ken Wyatt revealed to the ABC that he “has been in private talks with Harold Thomas, to find a resolution.” Mr Wyatt also told the ABC that he "would love to see the flag used freely across this nation, as it has been for a very long time.”

This campaign has now been covered on mainstream media around the country, including this powerful statement from Today show co-host and Gamilaroi/Gomeroi woman, Brooke Boney as well making front-page news across the country. Last night, you even got #FreeTheFlag trending on Twitter.

None of that would have been possible without all 120,000+ of us joining this campaign.

This isn’t over. #FreeTheFlag is a grassroots movement aimed at ensuring Aboriginal people everywhere can use our flag. Even though we’re so excited to see every AFL club stand with us, this issue continues after this weekend’s footy.

We invite every individual across the nation to stay with us. If you’re heading to a game this weekend, wear red, black and yellow to show your support.

Don’t forget to use the #FreeTheFlag social media frame to start these conversations, and the #FreeTheFlag infographic to guide you in the campaign.

Yours in the struggle,

Free the Flag Campaign
