The reporter has officially posted the interview with the McBride students, who bravely spoke out about the changes to their graduation ceremony and why they’re fighting for a traditional celebration.
Even after sharing their stories publicly, with honesty and courage, LBUSD has still not responded.
Graduation is just days away, and our seniors are still waiting to hear whether they’ll be allowed the ceremony they’ve earned — one where they walk in together, sit together, and receive their diplomas on stage, in front of both family and friends.
These students have overcome so much — from COVID disruptions to the loss of a classmate — and they deserve a graduation that reflects their full journey.
We also want to acknowledge the fear and stress many in our Long Beach community are facing due to recent ICE activity and enforcement actions. And still, even in the middle of all this, our students are showing up, organizing, and standing up for each other.
They deserve to be heard. They deserve to be celebrated.
We urge LBUSD to respond.
We urge leadership to act.
And we urge our community to keep showing up for the McBride Class of 2025.
🎓 Let them walk. Let them be seen. Let them be celebrated.
