Let Browse Proceed: Back WA Jobs, Energy Security and Responsible Development
The issue
A major campaign is underway to stop the Browse gas development.
Greenpeace says almost half a million people have signed its petition opposing Browse, and on 19 October 2026 it delivered the petition to Woodside's Perth headquarters as part of its campaign focused on protecting Scott Reef.
But that is not the only view in Western Australia.
Browse is one of Australia's largest undeveloped offshore gas resources. Woodside's proposal would connect the offshore Browse fields to existing North West Shelf infrastructure at Karratha, with the project potentially supplying domestic gas as well as LNG and LPG and supporting thousands of direct and indirect jobs.
The Browse gas development represents an opportunity to strengthen Western Australia's long-term energy security, support Australian jobs and investment, and make continued productive use of the existing North West Shelf infrastructure at Karratha.
Scott Reef and the surrounding marine environment should be protected. Browse has undertaken a fair environmental assessment and has strong operating conditions, scientific monitoring and effective regulatory oversight.
Opposition to a project should not determine its outcome.
Western Australians who support responsible resource development deserve a voice in this debate too. Lets get ordinary working Australians supporting responsible development and counter the Greenpeace campaign.
This petition calls for a simple, balanced outcome:
Browse is being assessed on its merits. Protect Scott Reef and Consider WA's jobs and energy needs. If Browse meets Australia's environmental, safety and regulatory requirements, let it proceed.
