THE NEXT STEPS FOR BOB AND DARKIE AND THE PETITION By Jeremy Holtom Today I took a look at how many petitions had actually reached the figure required for a debate in parliament and its remarkably few, a total of 55 out of almost 30,000 according to Chief Whip Tom Brake. Of these the largest number of signatures apart from Bob’s petition have been on overtly political petitions which feel as if they have been started on behalf of the establishment. Bob and Darkie’s is not only the biggest petition for an individual by far but if it reaches the 300,000 target it will be the first for an individual to reach that target ever but most of the petitions that have been debated happened when the required target was just 100,000 signatures. Take a look on this site which details the petitions that have succeeded and you will see exactly what I mean and why I remain intensely cynical of the reasons why politicians granted us the “right” to create them. They believed they could manipulate the one’s that would succeed to their own agenda. If this petition reaches the 300,000 figure the people will have broken through the political cynicism and that will start to change everything. https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions?state=debated Reading this information my belief that petitions were started not to as the politicians waffling on have said to “reconnect” us with parliament but to give us yet another cynical façade of doing so. If they had been created to reconnect us then why has the required number of signatures been increased from 100,000 to 300,000? This petition is very important for two reasons. Firstly, because it is the first for an individual to reach close to the huge number of signatures now required and secondly because it is about an 87 year old man with real courage not about giving meningitis injections to babies (which the politicians want). There is a third reason and that is because it is not about providing money from the state on the endless money grows on trees principle it is about the government doing the job it was elected to do and the money to solve it has come not from the government whose money is in fact our money but because individuals have provided it. This country got through both World Wars by for the first time truly learning to work together for the greater good. We must find that ability again. We have an enormous amount of power but far too often we are silent or we expect other people to do all of the work. None of us who feel passionately about change and are driven for whatever reason to push for change mind doing most of the work its in our blood. Its in my blood because I am the Grandson of The Designer of The Peace Symbol. All I am asking all of you who have supported Bob’s petition is two things. Firstly, to stick with the petition and continue sharing it with passion so that very soon it reaches the 300,000 signatures and must be debated in parliament. Secondly then to keep on pushing it so that it reaches a million signatures for if it passes well through 300,000 it will start to draw in the world and real change will start to follow as it did with Solidarity in Poland. For the younger amongst you this led directly to the collapse of the Iron Curtain and the loathsome Soviet Union and the freeing of dozens of people. Getting the petition way above 300,000 is real rather than fake democracy in action. I do not believe that there is a single politician anywhere in the world who truly understands the way most people have to live. I don’t think there is a single politician anywhere who understands at all what we all from rich to poor really, really want. It is time to show them, all of them because everyone of them of whatever shade or hue is entirely responsible for the divided, broken shambles this country has become. We need to educate them on this. Bob has now moved to a beautiful bungalow provided I believe by your donations. Now he must be made secure for life and he must continue to feel that what he started continues. For both of these reasons the petition must go much, much higher because it will give Bob a feeling that his fight has really led to change and it will keep him involved. It will give him a reason to live! In order to facilitate and motivate all of you to keep it going I will firstly be donating 10% of the sales achieved from now to Bob personally on a classical album that is already released up until the petition reaches 1,000,000 signatures. It’s a beautiful album and its called A Piece Of The Heart. My God we really do need a big piece of heart in this world. It’s a far easier task to get a classical album to Number One in the classical chart which is why this is the first prong of my attack to get Bob’s petition onto the front pages of newspapers. My objective is to create the conditions for it to come in at Number One because then even if none of the media report on the petition seriously it cannot be brushed over if the song reaches Number One because everyone will know and it will become a major news story in itself. That is the power of music which also needs to change as John Lennon repeatedly showed. It is time to put the spine back into the country, the spine that enabled us to win both wars against the sort of heartless thugs that would even consider evicting an 87 year old man. If this happens well the power to start shouting about the state of things will shift and they will have to start to listen!
