The SPFA Campaign was just nominated by BC FIPA for the Centre for Free Expression's the Peter Bryce Prize for Whistleblowing.

In the nomination letter, which can be read in full here, BC FIPA president, President Mike Larsen, writes "As a long-time transparency advocate, I find the work of these student journalists to be inspiring and deserving of recognition."

"It takes effort to edit a student newspaper. It takes courage to stand up to censorship. It takes vision, passion, and a real commitment to transparency to draft legislation and mobilize a coalition to protect journalistic freedom. "

This nomination is not only a tremendous honour for ourselves and the campaign, but for all the individuals who work on our paper, The Griffins’ Nest, as well as student journalists everywhere. It recognizes the necessity and value of student journalists in the role they play in their communities and in holding power to account. We applaud student journalists both nationally and globally for their continued efforts and important work.

BC FIPA’s nomination is a nomination shared by student journalists.

We extend our sincerest gratitude to BC FIPA for their continued support of the SPFA Campaign and all those who have supported us thus far.
