Hi all, We just wanted to reach out to let you know we’ve just passed 471 signatures on our petition!
The SPFA Campaign advocates for student journalism as a whole in BC, not just limited to the passage of our signature law.
Bill-22, introduced into the BC Legislature last week, would make sweeping changes to the province's freedom of information law, among them implementing a $25 fee for all non-personal FOIs.
Bill-22 would be especially destructive to student journalists, with their extremely limited budgets and thinly spread resources, it would stifle their reporting and bring important work to a halt.
That's something we, as supporters of students' rights in a free and democratic society, cannot allow.
The SPFA Campaign has the joined BC Freedom of Information and Privacy Associations' Coalition against Bill-22, and we urge you all to quickly visit BC FIPA's site and send a letter to the Premier demanding this regressive Bill not pass. Time is of the essence.
Thank you all for your support,
- Spencer & Jessica, Campaign Directors
