Legislation Against False Claims of Voting Machine Hacks and Election Fraud in India

Legislation Against False Claims of Voting Machine Hacks and Election Fraud in India
The Issue
We are urging the Government of India and the Election Commission (ECI) of India to take definitive action against three major issues that threaten the fabric of our democratic process:
(1) False claims of Electoral Voting Machine hacking/battery percentages affecting results,
(2) Persistent spreading of false information about the legitimacy of elections, and
(3) Provide provision to ECI to take action against the responsible parties in this matter.
It is a fact that false claims and misinformation have become pervasive in our society. These significantly impact our democracy and underpin our faith in the electoral process, discouraging voters and creating an atmosphere of distrust. A study from the Oxford Internet Institute found that India is one of the leading countries faced with an 'infodemic' of misinformation (source: Oxford Internet Institute). The Honorable Supreme Court of India has spoken about this in detail.
This is a call for legislation that not only penalizes those who make false claims about Electoral Voting Machine hacks, but also takes appropriate action against individuals found guilty of spreading misinformation concerning our Elections. This will ensure that our democratic process remains transparent, reliable, and credible.
Help protect the sanctity of our democracy. Sign the petition today. Together we can fight misinformation and ensure the integrity of our election process.
