Legalize Recreational Marijuana in the state of Iowa

Legalize Recreational Marijuana in the state of Iowa
The Issue
As individuals that understand the profound effect of continuously prosecuting people over the usage of a harmless plant—which many consider a form of medicine—we are calling for the legalization of recreational marijuana usage. This issue is deeply personal to us, because every day, we see countless individuals suffering needless consequences. This punitive approach towards a plant, prevalent in our society, underpins a gross, unnecessary violation of personal rights and liberties. Importantly, there are no recorded deaths attributable directly to cannabis, proving its harmlessness compared to alcohol (source: Centers for Disease Control and Prevention).
In contrast, alcohol—a substance legalized and widely accepted socially—was responsible for approximately 95,000 deaths annually from 2011 to 2015 (source: National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism). This imbalance in the law, and the continuance of it, is perplexing and disheartening. Legalizing recreational marijuana will not only correct this disparity but also holds remarkable potential for economic prosperity and social justice. The cannabis industry could generate massive tax revenues, and its legalization could curtail the opportunities for a black market to flourish.
Let's promote personal freedom, sensibility, and balance in our laws. Join us in this fight for justice and equity by signing this petition to legalize recreational marijuana.
