Masalahnya

For many individuals in Indonesia, being part of the LGBTQIA+ community is not just about identity; it is about survival and dignity. At present, many within our beloved nation face daily discrimination, fear, and punishment simply for being who they are. In particular, places like Aceh still enforce harsh penalties under the guise of "Sharia law," with public floggings being a stark reminder of these challenges faced by LGBTQIA+ individuals. The older generation, representing a significant segment of the Indonesian population, often perceives LGBTQIA+ identities as mental illnesses, perpetuating a cycle of misunderstanding and stigma.

Our call to action is driven by recent declarations from President Prabowo Subianto, who has categorized LGBTQIA+ people as a non-military threat, positioning them alongside atheism. Such proclamations do not just marginalize but embolden discrimination against these vulnerable communities.

In advocating for the legalization of LGBTQIA+ rights in Indonesia, we are working towards a future where everyone, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity, can live with equal rights and protection. Legalization is not merely about recognition; it's about ensuring that every individual is free from abuse, discrimination, and fear, and that they can contribute fully to society without prejudice or repercussion.

Legalizing LGBTQIA+ rights involves several actionable steps. Firstly, the government must decriminalize same-sex relationships and gender nonconformity, making sure no individual is punished for their identity. In parallel, there should be broad educational initiatives aimed at dismantling stereotypes and fostering greater understanding across generational divides. Furthermore, government representation of LGBTQIA+ individuals can lead to laws and policies that reflect inclusivity and equality, giving a voice to communities that have long been marginalized.

According to Human Rights Watch, numerous countries around the globe have recognized the imperative of living authentically, and Indonesia too can become a beacon of hope for all individuals if it chooses to lead in this area. Legalizing LGBTQIA+ rights will not only align Indonesia with global human rights standards but also enhance social harmony and economic productivity through diversity and inclusion.

We cannot remain silent while thousands suffer due to ignorance and systemic prejudices. Therefore, we urge every conscious individual and leader in Indonesia to support the cause for freedom, equality, and justice. Sign this petition to demand the protection and legalization of LGBTQIA+ rights in Indonesia. Together, let's foster an inclusive nation for everyone.
