The TLDR on the petitions previous update

The NSW Government has changed the scope of the seizure and destruction laws relating to e-bikes and negative riding behaviours. As part of this change, e-skateboards, Onewheels, and e-unicycles have been brought within these police powers, despite these devices never having been identified as a problem or receiving media attention.
NSW restricts or prohibits all devices outside of compliant e-bikes. In contrast, Western Australia, South Australia, Queensland, Tasmania, and the ACT have established regulatory frameworks that allow for the use of various personal mobility devices (PMDs) and personal electric vehicles (PEVs).
These jurisdictions still have enforcement measures in place, including the ability to confiscate e-bikes from young people in certain circumstances and to take action against unsafe or inappropriate riding behaviour. However, they have done so within broader regulatory frameworks that distinguish between compliant use and behaviour that warrants enforcement.
In previous correspondence with the NSW Transport Minister’s office, I was advised that empirical evidence is required to inform policy changes and government decision-making. Given that, I am seeking clarification on what empirical evidence was relied upon to justify expanding the scope of these powers to include these additional types of devices.
I therefore asked for your assistance in contacting the NSW Transport Minister to seek a straightforward answer to this question:
What empirical evidence did the NSW Government use to justify expanding the scope of these seizure and destruction powers to include e-skateboards, Onewheels, and e-unicycles?
Please sign this petition and follow the guide in the link below, please contact the NSW Transport Minister’s office and request that they provide the evidence and explain how it informed the decision to expand the scope.
