Abolish Hyde Park LTN Scheme

Abolish Hyde Park LTN Scheme
The Issue
Petition Topic
To stop, remove and reverse all the Low Traffic Neighbourhood (LTN) measures that have been implemented or in the process of under the Hyde Park LTN scheme.
We, the undersigned, call upon the council to remove the road blocks and measures that have been installed and introduced under the Hyde Park LTN scheme and reverse any changes made to the roads.
We note that the council and / or others did not consult residents, businesses and from what we've come to learn recently not even the MP's of our constituencies prior to installing the measures.
The Issues:
These measures will have a detrimental effect on the area in more than one way. They will increase the congestion on the already busy main roads, which will create even more pollution.
This will also have an impact on the response of emergency services, especially the ambulance service, where every second can be critical. Furthermore, small local businesses who are already struggling due to COVID will have a detrimental effect as both customers and suppliers will be forced to change routes.
Finally, it will put children and pedestrians at risk as drivers are forced to turn back and reverse onto main roads.
We all want safer routes and want to ensure that we can reduce the pollution. However, these measures simply do not do this.
Desired Outcome:
· Stop the short section of Queen’s Road, at the junction with Royal Park Road, to become one way exit and right turn only.
· Stop the bus gate to restrict motor vehicles on Queen’s Road, between Pearson Grove and Brudenell Road
· Stop Brudenell Road becoming a one way between Hyde Park Road and Welton Road, removing parking and providing cycling facilities.
· Stop Chestnut Avenue having parking restrictions
· Remove all plant pot road blocks with immediate effect
· Reversal of any changes already made to the road layouts resultant from this scheme and any other schemes that have been carried out in the area without public consultation with immediate effect.
Future Schemes:
Any future plans to introduce anything remotely similar we demand full transparency and full public consultation with invites going out to every resident and business owner.
Any future proposals to discuss such measures will need to have the consultations widely publicised so that every resident and business owner is made fully aware of the opportunity to speak and have put forward their input.
Public Consultation dates will need to be flexible and staggered to allow for all interested members of the community to engage and attend.
Suggestion
What Leeds really needs before anything like this could be remotely considered for our City and it's districts is a reliable mass transit system.
