After only 2 days, thanks to nearly 250 supporters all over LAUSD, the petition to give our kids back their Summer and move the LAUSD start date to 8/24 (8/18 isn't enough) is growing wild online.
Tonight I forwarded this petition to KTLA, the LA Times and Fox Goodday LA. There's a story here and I also challenged the news to ask the district:
-Why are LAUSD kids the only ones heading to class in early mid-August?
- Why do we need a full week off at Thanksgiving, when 2 days is the norm?Especially if it is so important to gain instructional days in Fall for LAUSD that our kids are brought back on the 12th of August?!
- Can LAUSD really afford the AC bill when we need that money for books?
- What did the district gain 3 years ago with this move?
- Where is the research that supports this radical calendar for LAUSD and has it really achieved higher test scores? Success of any sort? Because the parents don't like it and the teachers were against in 2010.
This petition is also going out to stakeholders Mayor Garcetti, the LAUSD Superintendent, and Suzsanna Vincze of LAUSD the contact listed for the upcoming 2/10 calendar vote. I have yet to hear feedback from any of these important decision makers.
If you agree, then show LAUSD how important the calendar is to your family and sign the petition, forward it to other concerned parents and family members, Tweet, Blog, Facebook, tell your friends. Just 5 days remain before the vote to lock in the calendar for the 2015-16 school year.
