Today LAUSD School Board Members Vladovic, Schmerelson, McKenna, Rodriguez, and Zimmer all voted in favor of a later school start date for LA Kids - who deserve Summertime! Superintendent King's transition plan for 8/22 start date next year, and 8/28 the following school year passed 5 to 2 (Garcia and Ratliff voted No). The 2-year plan is for LA Kids to go back to school the week before Labor Day. This enables secondary students to complete the Fall term prior to Winter Break - while fixing the LAUSD calendar's extended Thanksgiving and Winter breaks, that are a hardship on working families.
