Last Resort for Medication Resistant Depression.

The Issue

As someone who's battled depression since the age of 11 years old, and being formally diagnosed at the age of 13 in 2002.

It's been a life long struggle, I've tried over 16 types of antidepressants with little to no results.

On January 18th, 2023 I received a report through a genetic test which informed me that I have CYP2C19*17, which is an enzyme variant causing you to be a rapid metabolizer for certain medications. Meaning zero therapeutic effects.

Ketamine treatment therapies have shown some evidence, to help individuals with medication resistant depression.

-Such as IV Ketamine Infusion therapy

-Spravato esketamine (Nasel Spray)

-Lozenges

Unfortunately, the cost of these treatments are way to expensive for the average Canadian.

I feel this treatment could help those who feel they have exhausted every attempt in improving their quality of mental health.

As of March 17th, 2023 M.A.I.D Will be legal  for patients suffering from severe depression etc.

My goal is to get the Canadian Government to acknowledge for those of us who are medication resistant to be exempted from paying for the treatment, or reduction in cost based on personal income. Even some insurance companies won't cover the treatment.

This may be our last shot.

Mental Illness is not a choice, and everyone deserves a chance to live a more fulfilling life.
