Unfortunately the Committee on Finance "un-deferred" and unanimously voted to PASS SB2524 WITHOUT AMENDMENTS (Note: the Maui and Kauai representatives voted "aye with reservations"). Within the next few weeks, the bill will likely move to "Conference Committee" with appointed representatives from the House and Senate (TBD) who will attempt to draft a final version, which would then be put to a vote by the House and Senate. If the bill passes, it will go to the Governor to be signed into law or vetoed. Although this is a frustrating process, we will continue to do everything in our power to ensure that the bill is either terminated or amended to exempt the Neighbor Islands/County of Maui and will update you on developments and ways to help.
