After an intensive 4+ months of letter writing, community awareness and communication, and the Change.ORG petition, the parcel of land where Last Chance Horse and Pony Rescue and Sanctuary currently reside has been removed from the Niagara Region Official Plan. The updated plan was officially approved last night at the Niagara Regional Council meeting. We would like to thank the Niagara Region Planning and Economic Development Committee for reviewing our plight, and making the recommendation. Many concerns were raised over the over-development of residential growth within the Crystal Beach area, and keeping development in line with the Crystal Beach Secondary Plan. Many thanks to all that contributed to this success: - individuals and organizations that submitted letters of support - volunteers of LCHPR for their continued support, speaking at council meetings and organizing this undertaking - all of the great supporters who signed this petition - paper and online - over 16,500 signatures - thanks to Sharon Wallace, owner and operator of LCHPR for her ongoing Charitable efforts to provide these kind animals with a home and Sanctuary - and finally, our local councillors within the Crystal Beach and Ridgeway area for their support Thank you from all of us!
