Let's end the systematic and illegal abuse of farm animals in Chile!

En Chile, miles de animales de granja son sometidos cada día a un nivel de crueldad que debería ser inaceptable en cualquier sociedad que se diga justa. Nuestro equipo analizó sanciones oficiales y evidencia técnica de los últimos años. Lo que encontramos es estremecedor: animales forzados a soportar más de 30 horas de ayuno antes del sacrificio, mutilados sin anestesia, mal medicados y sacrificados sin una insensibilización adecuada. Y esto no es la excepción: es el modo en que opera gran parte de esta industria.

Entre las empresas analizadas se encuentra Sopraval, el mayor productor de carne de pavo en Chile, lo que demuestra que estas prácticas no son marginales, sino estructurales. No se trata de “casos aislados": se trata de un sistema diseñado para explotar y violentar.

Estas prácticas no solo son inmorales y crueles. Son ilegales. Pero la ley chilena, tal como está hoy, no está hecha para proteger a los animales. Está hecha para permitir que esta industria siga funcionando, a pesar del daño que causa.

La normativa actual es débil, ambigua y cómplice. No establece estándares exigibles de trato digno. No define cuántas infracciones deben llevar al cierre de una instalación. Y así, incluso quienes acumulan faltas graves y reiteradas siguen operando como si nada.

Esto no es un problema de fiscalización. Es una crisis ética. Una industria que normaliza el abuso. Una ley que mira hacia otro lado. Y un Estado que permite que el sufrimiento se vuelva rutina.

Por eso alzamos la voz. Porque no podemos seguir llamando “producción” a lo que es, en realidad, un sistema de violencia industrializada. Porque ningún modelo económico justifica el sufrimiento sistemático de seres sintientes. Y porque transformar esta realidad exige no solo reformas, sino un cambio profundo en la manera en que nos relacionamos con los animales.

Nuestro objetivo es claro: impulsar el cierre definitivo de las empresas que incumplen reiteradamente las normas de bienestar animal y trabajar con el SAG para promover las reformas regulatorias que aseguren estándares verdaderamente exigibles y mecanismos efectivos de sanción.

Con tu firma, exiges lo que es justo: regulaciones claras, sanciones efectivas y una transformación real del sistema de producción animal en Chile. Pero también algo más profundo: el cierre definitivo de aquellas instalaciones que reinciden en el maltrato y la destrucción ambiental. Porque avanzar hacia una sociedad ética y compasiva no es compatible con seguir sosteniendo industrias construidas sobre el sufrimiento.

In Chile, thousands of farm animals are subjected every day to a level of cruelty that should be unacceptable in any so-called just society. Our team analysed official sanctions and technical evidence from recent years. What we found is shocking: animals forced to endure more than 30 hours of fasting before slaughter, mutilated without anaesthesia, under-medicated and slaughtered without proper desensitisation. And this is no exception: it is the way much of the industry operates.

Among the companies analysed is Sopraval, the largest producer of turkey meat in Chile, which shows that these practices are not marginal, but structural. These are not ‘isolated cases’: it is a system designed to exploit and violate.

These practices are not only immoral and cruel. They are illegal. But Chilean law, as it stands today, is not made to protect animals. It is made to allow this industry to continue to operate, despite the harm it causes.

Current legislation is weak, ambiguous and complicit. It does not set enforceable standards of humane treatment. It does not define how many violations should lead to the closure of a facility. And so, even those who accumulate serious and repeated offences continue to operate as if nothing had happened.

This is not an enforcement problem. It is an ethical crisis. An industry that normalises abuse. A law that looks the other way. And a state that allows suffering to become routine.

That is why we raise our voices. Because we can no longer call ‘production’ what is, in reality, a system of industrialised violence. Because no economic model justifies the systematic suffering of sentient beings. And because transforming this reality requires not only reforms, but a profound change in the way we relate to animals.

Our objective is clear: to push for the definitive closure of companies that repeatedly fail to comply with animal welfare standards and to work with SAG to promote regulatory reforms that ensure truly enforceable standards and effective sanction mechanisms.

With your signature, you demand what is right: clear regulations, effective sanctions and a real transformation of the animal production system in Chile. But also something more profound: the definitive closure of those facilities that persist in mistreating and destroying the environment. Because moving towards an ethical and compassionate society is not compatible with continuing to sustain industries built on suffering.
