Important Next Steps

What a week! The great news is that there is a draft ordinance, which *may* contain some real protections for our most vulnerable friends and neighbors. The ordinance will be discussed at the Langley City Council meeting on Monday 3/20 at 5:30 pm at the Langley United Methodist Church - Fellowship Hall (301 Anthes Ave, Langley, WA 98260). There are four key things we need to do now, so that we can really show the loving power of this movement for Inclusive/Sanctuary protections: 1. Collect more petition signatures! Ask all your people to sign! The petition for an ordinance is our most powerful tool for showing community support in the face of determined opposition by the Mayor and some on the Council. Please, ask all your folks to sign. Whether they live in Langley, visit Langley, shop in Langley or send their kids to school there, all signatures are needed and important. Send them the link with a personal email, or, even better, call them or mention it when you're hanging out and have them sign it on your phone. It takes 2 minutes, max. 2. Outreach: Our goal is to reach 300 Langley resident signatures before Monday, when we will deliver the petition in person to the Mayor and Council at the Council meeting. If you live locally, please join us at noon on Sunday for tabling and door knocking in Langley. We'll meet in the back room at the South Whidbey Commons (124 Second Street, Langley, WA 98260). 3. Send a note to the Mayor (who says he's now tallying opinion on this issue) stating your support for an Inclusive Ordinance: mayor@langleywa.org with a copy to council@langleywa.org. Please ask your friends to do the same. 4. Show up at the Council and speak your truth, with love. We anticipate there will be more opponents of an ordinance at this upcoming meeting than before. That means it's even more important that we all show up and speak to the deep values that have brought us this far: community, solidarity, protection for those most at-risk from the craziness of the Trump administration. Please come prepared to speak! 2 minutes will be the time limit, so if it helps you to write your thoughts down, please do!
