Langley Residents: Important Action Alert for March 6!

Langley residents: please attend the City Council meeting Monday night and hold your elected officials accountable If you live within the city limits of Langley, please show up Monday, March 6, 5:30pm, for the City Council meeting. Tell your elected officials that you are a resident, a voter, and you want to see real protections in place for our immigrant and undocumented neighbors. This will be our last chance to influence the Council before their March 20th vote on the Inclusive Resolution. It's more important than ever that your voice is heard. Here is what you can do: -Arrive at City Hall (112 Second Street) by 5:25pm Monday, March 6 -Pick up a "Langley Voter for Inclusive Ordinance" sign from one of our organizers at the door -Take a seat in the Council's chambers (we will be holding seats for Langley residents) -Display your sign during the public comment period -If you feel comfortable doing so, please be prepared to speak to one of the talking points below during the public comment period Talking points 1. We need an ordinance. A resolution--and especially the resolution currently being considered by the Council--is not enforceable to the same degree as an ordinance. We need the strongest protections possible for our friends and neighbors who are most vulnerable under the Trump administration. 2. Any action the city takes must include the two key elements of any sanctuary/inclusive policy: 1) Not collecting data on immigration status, religion, or sexual orientation, and 2) Not using city resources for the enforcement of federal immigration law. The current resolution appears to only contain one of these protections, and even that is unclear. 3. The 3/20 meeting on this critical community issue needs to be held at a much larger venue: Continuing to turn people away from these meetings is undemocratic and un-befitting of our community. Can't make the meeting on 3/6? On Monday, March 20, the Council plans to present the second reading of their Inclusive Resolution, and they are expected to vote at that time.
