Save The Moakley House

We, the undersigned, ask the City of Boston Landmarks Commission to vote to landmark 1812 Columbia Road in South Boston (the “Moakley House”). The house is the former home of the late U.S. Congressman John Joseph (“Joe”) Moakley and his late wife Evelyn. Joe Moakley made significant political and historical contributions to the city of Boston, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, the United States of America, and the world as a whole having served in several elected roles in local, state, and national government. The Moakley House, where the couple lived for their entire marriage and Joe’s whole political career, is a critical marker of Joe’s and Evelyn’s memory in the City Point neighborhood of South Boston. Furthermore, the Moakley Home is a fine example of Colonial Revival architecture that is a critical anchor to the surrounding architectural landscape in the neighborhood. For these reasons, the Moakley House should be landmarked to protect and preserve the legacies of the Moakleys and their connection to South Boston.
