Save Apparition Costume Hire from extinction
The issue
Apparition Costume Hire has been a local institution of Claremont for 34 years. We love supplying our customers with costumes and ideas for their events. We pride ourselves on having a laid back attitude to costumes and try to keep prices affordable. Since the start of the 'Claremont on the Park' development Apparition has seen a 40% loss of business compared to the previous year. Due to this we have had to take a number of measures to ensure we stay afloat this year, such as cut down on staff hours.
In the middle of June we were told that our car park adjacent to Apparition would be out of action for three days. It is still under construction today, and customers have been instructed to park in the car park next to the train station. With the roadworks blocking access Claremont Crescent via Shenton Road, people have been finding it difficult to locate this designated car park. The few customers who arrive at Apparition comment on the difficulty to find parking, and the fact that the roadworks make our shop look permanently closed.
The fences and piles of sand surrounding the property are an absolute eyesore. It is blocking visibility to our business and making it appear as if we are closed and/or under construction.
The roadworks that have been ongoing since May of this year have had a massive effect on the viability and financial well-being of Apparition Costume Hire. Landcorp is currently refusing to enter into any discussion of compensation for this impact.
We, the undersigned, are concerned citizens who urge Landcorp to do the decent thing and pay fair compensation to Apparition Costume Hire for the losses inflicted on the business by the roadworks and subsequent dislocations to access and parking.
Please help us keep Apparition alive! Your signature means a lot to us and could keep us in business for many years to come.
