Re-installation of the bird sculpture at Sunderland point.

Re-installation of the bird sculpture at Sunderland point.

The Issue

On the 24th June 2004 our lovely DAD and GRANDAD died suddenly in hospital.
Ray Schofield was a talented, loving, generous, funny, eccentric character and was respected by many in this area for his art work, both painting, drawing and sculpture, often of wildlife.

After he died we were all heartbroken.
The house he was living in at Sunderland Point was sold and purchased by a lovely man called Brian, a musician.

Not long after Brian moved in he found some metal birds that had been cut out,
obviously done by Ray, in his house .
Brian proceeded to make this amazing sculpture, using Ray’s birds .
He also out of the kindness of his heart had a plaque made to commemorate Ray’s life.
He erected the sculpture on what he thought was his land, opposite the house. It has been there for a number of years and was admired by locals and visitors alike. Not least his proud family.

However recently, certain members of the Sunderland Point community have put in a complaint to the City Council, that Brian did not have permission to erect the sculpture. And he has been badgered by the council and various members of Sunderland Point to take it down.

There seems to be some petty vendetta against Brian, and much to the families disgust he has had to remove it .
The whole of the family are terribly upset and angry that this has happened and we suspect that members of the local community and surrounding area, will also be disgusted.

So if you’re wondering where the sculpture has disappeared to, there’s the explanation. Please sign and help us reinstall the sculpture.
