Save The Marsh to Central School Bus

Save The Marsh to Central School Bus
The Issue
The number 24 school bus which runs from the Marsh to Central school is a popular and well used service that many school children rely on to get safely to and from school. Cancelling this service will impact on many families and create unnecessary barriers to children accessing their education. It will increase congestion in the town centre and especially around the school and on the Ridge Estate, which is already dangerously congested during school drop off and pick up times. Not all children that use this bus service have other means of transport apart from walking and it is a long and often soggy walk uphill from Marsh to Central. Secondary school children should have the opportunity for independent, safe travel to and from school and not have to rely on their parents for lifts every day. School buses are an environmentally friendly, relatively cheap way of arriving at school dry and ready for the day's learning and encourage children to get to school on time and with the energy they need for their lessons. We urge Lancashire County Council to reconsider their decision to cancel this important service and to instead invest in keeping it running in 2021-22 and beyond
