Lamoda, stop selling fur!

The Issue

RU

Major online clothing and footwear retailer Lamoda declares compliance with the principles of responsible consumption. However, the retailer still continues selling items made of animal fur. On the fur farms minks, foxes, sables and other animals are kept in narrow cages throughout their entire lives, and are killed inhumanely at an early age. Often animals are still alive during skinning. Even a little fur pompom is an animal’s life taken away, and several dozens of animals get killed for the production of one fur coat!

The production of fur leads to a bigger carbon footprint compared with other textile materials, whereas animal excrements and production waste pollute water and soil. Finally, fur farms are the perfect breeding ground for various infections, including COVID-19. For these reasons, fur farming has already been prohibited or restricted in 20 EU states. Hundreds of brands and retailers around the world are moving away from this cruel and non-sustainable material towards cruelty-free alternatives.

We urge Lamoda to follow the declared principles of social responsibility by stopping the sale of fur!

“When you consider what the animals endure, there is nothing fashionable about fur - please shun fur!” - Stella McCartney, fashion designer.

“I have a faux fur coat, which is quite inexpensive. Everyone thinks that it is made of animal fur, and it even insults me. I want everyone to understand that it is not due to poverty, it is due to spiritual wealth. Those with spiritual wealth will not wear animal fur” - Vladislav Lisovets, fashion expert.

“Fur only looks good on its original owner. Be comfortable in your own skin, and let animals keep theirs”, - Tim Howard, soccer player.

“I am against animal fur, since there is no fashion or beauty in it. I feel sorry for animals which suffer every day of their short life and are finally killed … for which purpose? There are plenty of eco-friendly and cruelty-free alternatives to look stylish”, - Maksim Matveyev, actor.

“Being a modern person and keeping up with the times is learning to cause as little suffering as possible to any living creatures around. I believe that the fashion has long gone beyond animal fur. Now there is nothing cooler than coming to a party in a "Cheburashka" made of faux fur. The desire to be beautiful must not cause harm to anyone”, - Katya Ivanchikova, IOWA vocalist.
