I just spoke on the phone with Safety Director Yordt and I received some good information regarding the public's concerns for traffic safety at Bloomfield Avenue and Lemming Street.
He informed me that the City of Lakewood and the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department is actively investigating the tragic accident that occurred this past Friday, as well as previous collisions at this intersection.
I made some more specific suggestions to him as well, such as adding a pedestrian warning device if a traffic signal is not found to be warranted, as well as other measures to increase visibility.
He assured me that the City Council is well aware of the petition, as well as the community's efforts to make this intersection safer.
Director Yordt said that he would follow up with the community about any more developments and/or what the city decides to implement.
