Friends, Apologies in advance for the length of this update, but please read through for important information. Yesterday a number of us showed up to the King County Council meeting to voice our concerns and to ask the council to ultimately rule in favor of not allowing an asphalt plant to take a home in our neighborhood. Lakeside Industries had probably 4 times as many people show up in their favor. While they all said great things about their company culture, nothing that their side presented was related at all to the issue at hand. This lot should not be zoned industrial, there are facts published that indicate that this location could create environmental hazards to us and our families, and impact our quality of life. We do not disagree with them that Lakeside seems to be a wonderful company who takes care of their people and they have in the past been gracious to our group. If you would like to see the meeting, please visit this video: http://king.granicus.com/MediaPlayer.php?view_id=4&clip_id=6842 THE FIGHT ISN'T OVER! We need all of you now more than ever! Please take a moment this week to send an email to ALL of the King County Council members and include Dow Constantine, King County Executive. First priority, ask them to maintain the moratorium on the zoning of the proposed asphalt plant location. Ask that they not dismiss it! Secondly, start preparing additional FACTS about your concerns. These facts should be based on WA state evidence, not directed at Lakeside, but rather asphalt plant operation. Send them these facts. Third, challenge the comprehensive plan! Review chapter 3, and specifically consider pages 3: 36-37 and code R-515. This lot is supposed to zoned Rural Residential and only deemed Industrial for continued operation of current use, not for new industrial uses. read the plan and write your comments to the council. Full plan can be found here: http://www.kingcounty.gov/~/media/depts/executive/performance-strategy-budget/regional-planning/2016CompPlanUpdate/2016Adopted-KCCP/KingCountyCompPlan-ADO-120516.ashx?la=en Here is a list of their names and email addresses: Dow Constantine, King County Executive kcexec@kingcounty.gov Fred Jarrett, Deputy King County Executive fred.jarrett@kingcounty.gov King County Council Members Rod Dembowski, District 1 Rod.Dembowski@kingcounty.gov Reagan Dunn, District 9 Reagan.Dunn@kingcounty.gov staff: bryn.vanderstoep@kingcounty.gov, lisa.labrache@kingcounty.gov Kathy Lambert, District 3 Kathy.Lambert@kingcounty.gov Joe McDermott, Council Vice Chair, District 8 Joe.McDermott@kingcounty.gov Jeanne Kohl-Welles, District 4 Jeanne.Kohl-Welles@kingcounty.gov Larry Gossett, District 2 Larry Larry.Gossett@kingcounty.gov Dave Upthegrove, District 5 Dave.Upthegrove@kingcounty.gov Claudia Balducci, District 6 Claudia.Balducci@kingcounty.gov Pete von Reichbauer, District 7 Pete.vonReichbauer@kingcounty.gov We have a long road ahead, but a lot of heart behind our fight!
