An Illinois developer wants Lafayette to annex into the city 36 acres at the SW corner of Arapahoe & 287 to build a massive and dense “mixed-use” project with 650 apartment homes as high as 5 stories - totally out of character with surrounding areas and not exactly what congested Arapahoe road needs!  Currently the land is in unincorporated Boulder County, is zoned agricultural and may not be developed.  Unless and until the Lafayette Councilors vote to annex this land into the city, the developer has no legal rights to pursue this development.  The decision whether to annex is a “legislative” decision (not “quasi-judicial) and the Councilors have absolute discretion to refuse to annex.

The citizens signing below urge the Councilors to refuse to annex this land.  The developer’s “Sketch Plan” pictured here is a preposterous “trial balloon”.  We should not be satisfied with merely scaling it back.  The City simply should not annex this land.
