This isn’t a call for in or out. This isn’t a discussion about confidence or no-confidence. This is about people taking their place at the right time and offering hope to those who need it most. When I was growing up in a 1980’s Britain, when political parties seemed to know who they were, my Mother taught me “You do not vote for yourself if you are privileged. You vote for those who are most vulnerable and cast a vote for those who need it most.” Many of my friends and colleagues have described the last week as a “grieving” process. More than ever we need parties who stand for something and leadership who speak for those they represent. We need people who know who they are and what they believe in. We need role models for our children and to help others build a bright future. The day Chuka announced he was standing for the Labour leadership race many of us breathed a sigh of relief. Finally someone relevant, that we could relate to and somebody the future generations could relate to. It's understood he stepped down for personal reasons and has continued to serve his community with integrity and grace. But today I implore you to sign this petition to encourage Chuka to stand strong and move for election as the new leader of the labour party. The right path is not always the easiest one but Chuka we know you are the right person for the job and we are behind you. You are the only man to lead the Labour party and potentially you could be the next Prime Minister. Now is your time.
