Today, we need to launch our first call to action, because we have confirmation that 2000 custody beds have been discussed by LAPD and Sheriff Villanueva in the context of the Venice boardwalk.
Knock LA has confirmation that: Sheriff Villanueva has spoken to LAPD Chief Michel Moore and Deputy Mayor Jeff Gorrell about a plan wherein he has 2,000 custody beds downtown that can be used for a 48-hour hold if the unhoused residents on the Venice boardwalk are “non-compliant.”
WHAT:
Call Mayor Garcetti's Westside field representative Brad Fingard at 213 978-0836.
HOW:
We recommend the following script: "Hi Brad, my name is __. I'm a resident of neighborhood __ . I need to ask that our mayor to step up efforts to stop Sheriff Villanueava from his arbitrary plan to clear the Venice Boardwalk by the 4th of July. It has been confirmed in the press that 2000 custody beds have been set aside for "non-compliant" people. How does the mayor plan to address this crisis? [write down response] Well, LAPD must not collaborate with the Sheriff in any way I need to know what our mayor's plan is to stop the sheriff. Can you email your answers to me and cc stop.villanueva@gmail.com?"

We demand that the Mayor clarify LAPD's role when it comes to the sheriff's actions in Venice.
