Critical Call To Action

Western Justice
Dec 2, 2022

We are at the critical stage of a 22-month battle by the Western Sports Industry Coalition to prevent the proposed rodeo ordiance from passing.

A vote will be held on Dec 7, 2022 by the Personnel, Audits, and Animal Welfare Committee (PAAW) on the ordinance, which prohibits the use of ropes, spurs, and flank staps in western sports events including,  rodeo bull riding and charreria in the city of Los Angeles. Not only will this end western sports events such as the Bill Pickett Invitational Rodeo, PBR's bull riding event at the Crypto Arena and Charreria events, it will set a precedent for other cities to follow.

We are urging all supporters to lend your voice in our fight by calling the three committee members listed below, asking them to adopt the amended ordinance language the Western Sports Industry Coalition has provided. The committee's decision will be greatly influenced by the level of public participation when the ordinance is presented for a committee vote.

Below are some suggestions you may wish to make; please be respectful and concise in your remarks.

  • Everyone in western sports loves and respects the animal athletes. On top of that, there are many rules in place ensuring animal welfare.
  • Everyone wants on thing- for animals to be safe. Please adopt the Western Sports Industry Coalition's amendments to the Rodeo Oridinance at the upcoming Dec. 7 committee meeting. These amendments will make sure the animals stay safe while allowing rodeo events, enjoyed by people of all cultural backgrounds , to continue.
