In this photo, you'll see Mimi. My protest of the Los Angeles County Animal Care And Control facilities began when I went to adopt Mimi after our dog Minnie Mouse died in a car accident. She was crushed by the air bag. To honor Minnie Mouse, we adopted Mimi. I saw Mimi posted on Downey's Adoptable Animals website and I immediately drove to the Downey Animal Pound to save her. When I arrived, they told me this 14 year old dog who was surrendered by the owner was available but because I did not have an appointment, I couldn't take her home. I told them I didn't want Mimi to have to sleep in the pound over night but they told me that BECAUSE I DIDN'T HAVE AN APPOINTMENT the adoption couldn't happen. I lost my mind that our local pound was so insensitive.

Long story short, I got Mimi out. We discovered Mimi had a Mammary Tumor and decided to remove it. It's now 7 months later and almost $12,000 in cancer treatments, 5 trips to Las Vegas to meet with her oncologist, months and months of love and kisses. Then, on January 6th, 2022, we had to make the decision for Mimi to be put to sleep. It was the most PAINFUL decision of my life. Holding that sweet angel knowing that if we kept her alive she would be in constant pain. So, we held her in her blanket as the vet helped her cross over. Thank you Mimi for helping me see what is happening at the Los Angeles County Animal Control facilities. Thank you for helping me see Los Angeles County Supervisor Janice Hahn as the CON SHE IS(HAHN THE CON). It's because of what is possible for doggies like you Mimi that thousands of concerned citizens are petitioning to save more lives. Rest in peace my precious angel.

EVERY ANIMAL IN OUR COUNTY FACILITIES DESERVES THE CHANCE TO BE LOVED WHEN THEY ARE ABANDONED. THEY DESERVE A SYSTEM THAT WORKS DAY AND NIGHT AT HELPING THEM FIND A NEW HOME like ours.

Since that day they turned me away at the pound, I have dug and dug at discovering WHY our Los Angeles County Supervisor Janice Hahn has voted to continue to leave these NEW restrictive procedures in place. It is JANICE HAHN who made a motion to check on the animal pounds but has done nothing since receiving the update on the deplorable conditions. After months of digging, I discovered that Janice Hahn actually KNEW and APPROVED all these restrictive procedures before they were put in place. She KNEW animals would be turned away from the pounds and told to be put out on the streets where people found the animals. SHE STILL KNOWS and is OKAY WITH IT. SHE CONNED US ALL AND THE ANIMALS.

This is our LAST WARNING JANICE HAHN (HAHN THE CON). If you don’t open the pounds, we are going to begin petitioning the Governor’s Office. Many counties across California have FULLY RE-OPENED more than 6 months ago. It’s time for Los Angeles County Animal Pounds to FULLY RE-OPEN.

Clearly, staying closed to the public, requiring appointments, is all about Los Angeles animal pounds not being transparent or responsive to the needs of Los Angeles County residents and our abandoned pets. Government agencies are paid - quite well - to not only serve the public but the animals impounded.   It's time for these pounds to OPEN FOR BUSINESS, to allow the public to peruse the pounds and adopt the many impounded pets unlucky enough to be stuck in the care of lazy, unethical and inhumane employees who finally need to earn their paychecks like the REST OF US. As we remember in our recent past, Los Angeles County Animal Control officers were found sleeping in their cars, working out and hosting yard sales while ON OUR CLOCK (see https://losangeles.cbslocal.com/2018/10/25/goldstein-investigation-la-county-animal-control-workers/

Our lost and abandoned animals are suffering and missing opportunities to be adopted or rescued due to the continued lack of exposure with the closures of L.A. pounds and the implementation of control measures to limit 7 fully functional animal pounds.  Paid vacation IS over NOW!  It’s time to open just like every other business, including government agencies, throughout the Los Angeles County area. The animal pounds originally claimed that their NEW MANAGEMENT STYLE would lower illnesses in the pounds. Sadly, those of us who work in the animal rescue world have discovered pleas from every single Animal Pound in Los Angeles County claiming the animals are sick and that they are overcrowded because this appointment system and several closures of pounds. Many people have been TURNED AWAY and told to place animals back where they were found. The animal pounds are literally WORSE OFF than when they started these insane policies.

OPEN THE SHELTERS NOW!

And, here's more reasons to support the re-opening of ALL pounds.

"...  Lockdowns had little-to-no benefit on public health, analysis shows

Few studies, if any, have been carried out to determine whether vaccine passports and COVID restrictions actually lowered COVID cases, hospitalizations and deaths.

However, a recent analysis published by researchers at Johns Hopkins found COVID lockdown measures implemented in the U.S. and Europe had almost no effect on public health.

“We find little-to-no evidence that mandated lockdowns in Europe and the United States had a noticeable effect on COVID-19 mortality rates,” the researchers wrote.  ..."
