Today I bought some poster board at the Dollar Store. I wrote OPEN THE SHELTER on it. Then, I stood in front of Downey's Animal Pound from 3PM until 5PM. Guess how many people showed up over this two hour period of time.

Let me explain exactly what I did first. When I showed up, I first went and introduced myself to the staff. I explained why I would be protesting  in front of the pound today. When I arrived, 1 person and her daughter had just arrived for their 2:30 appointment. I sat in my car coloring my poster board. They left about 2:50PM empty handed. At three o'clock, I took my poster board and knocked on the closed window that had no one waiting at it. I explained I was going to protest in front of the building because the pound was not fully opened yet. They seemed to understand stand. It was 3 PM and no one was there. So, I walked to the front of the building and started to walk on the sidewalk with my sign. I stood there for two hours counting cars. 3 work vehicles drove into the parking lot. 3 cars used the parking lot to turn around. That's IT. Not one other person or appointment showed up in 2 hours on a Sunday afternoon. Sundays use to be busy days at the animal pound. Not anymore. I almost forgot to mention. The entire time I was there, you could hear the HAUNTING sounds of dogs crying in the background. God help us. NOT ONE PERSON IN TWO HOURS.
